For Bucharest Days, the city sits down at the table.
On the weekend of 19–20 September, the intersection of Christian Tell and Biserica Amzei streets closes to traffic and becomes, for the third year running, a temporary cultural square: two days of concerts, workshops, conversations and open-air cinema, all free to attend, around the “Endless Table” installation.
For the first time, the event takes place in autumn, on the very weekend Bucharest celebrates 567 years since it was first mentioned in a historical document, and it marks ARCEN's 20th anniversary.
The Endless Table
At the heart of the intersection, the “Endless Table” (Masa Nesfârșită) stretches out once again: a 45-metre installation created especially for this place by French artist and architect Olivier Vadrot (Centre Pompidou, Collection Lambert). For three years now, thousands of Bucharest residents have sat down at it: neighbours and passers-by, children and grandparents, strangers who sit down together and leave having met. A city that sits at the same table is a city in conversation with itself.
The table born in Amzei Square is now travelling the world. A new edition will be built in October for a historic site in Naples, as part of EDIT Napoli, the international design fair, taking an object conceived for a Bucharest intersection into the international design circuit. The original stays at home: it is set up at dawn on Saturday, in the place it was designed for.
At the first edition, I said that what happens in the house of Mița Biciclista doesn't stop at its walls, but resonates through the spaces around it. Three years later, the table in the intersection has become the place where the neighbourhood meets. We are setting it out again for the city's birthday, because in ARCEN's 20 years we have truly learned one thing: a city heals when its people come together. And at this table, there is room for everyone.

All activities are free to attend on both days, between 10:00 and 22:00. The children's workshops are free too, but need signing up, as places are limited.
The street
The street is closed to traffic under permit, and stays open on foot to everyone, including residents and local businesses.
